Coffee Lake.

Post by |c9|nOOky » Thu Nov 02, 2017 6:18 pm

I decided to dip my toes in Coffee Lake. Ordered the i7-8700K, 16 gigs of G.Skill TridentZ DDR4-3200 cas 14 ram, the Noctua NH-D15 cooler (it's fricken HUGE), an Asus ROG Strix Z370-E mobo and a 500 gig Samsung 850 Evo SSD for Steam games.

Going to re-purpose a Samsung 850 Pro as the boot drive, and keep the Vega 64 and new 32" 4k monitor obviously.

I would like to try some newer single player games so I thought I build before I download them. Some of you may know out internet connection sux, one of the reasons online gaming sux for me. I've heard power line internet is coming, but I doubt it will come here, we live in the sticks and it's not worth their effort to run any sort of lines to our little neck of the woods.

Anyway, can't wait!
System 1: Asus ROG Strix Z-370E, i7-8700K @ 5.0, Sapphire RX Vega 64, , 2 X 8 G.Skill TridentZ DDR4-3200, Samsung 850 Pro 256GB, Samsung 850 Evo 500GB, LG 32" 4K awesome monitor.
System 2: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P, Intel C2D E8500 @ 4.2 via Arctic Cooling, HD6870, 2 x 4 G-Skill PC2 8500, Crucial M500 120GB Vista Ultimate.

Rig sounds amaze-balls. Congrats!

You have 12mb/s as I remember? I make people cry every night and I'm at 6mb/s, so you might rethink that sp vs mp gaming thing.

I do not have 12mb, we have 5mb down and 768k up on a good day, ASDL. Sometimes Amazon movies won't play through and switch to standard definition which is sad. Mostly it's the ping that sux.

Ah, yeah that's about what I'm at. We're 21,000' from the fiber, also ADSL, so it is what it is. My ping in Overwatch is around 70ms. Someday I'll move into town and get more speed, but it's just so peaceful out here...

eh, I live in town with 200 down and 50 up.. I'd rather live further out where its quieter and have much slower speeds.

My credit card was charged, but it didn't ship yet. They have a few days to shipp yet I guess. I don't know if I'd keep it if I were you or use it, cost you a lot more to use it as you'd need a new mobo. However around the holidays they might be even pricier and you may make at least $100.

I considered an AMD build, but it wasn't really any cheaper, and Intel is still the way to go imho.

The 768k up is what's going to kill you in MP. :(

Our down speed here is good but we only have 12/mbs up. On the plus side, it's pretty quiet and laid back here, for the most part.

Yeah, I was actually thinking of your place as being optimal, some elbow room but in town with all the amenities. Sadly, a spot like yours would cost a million bucks here.
